What is a face scrub? Why do you need it?
A facial scrub uses small gritty particles, beads, or chemicals to get rid of the old skin cells and make way for new ones in a process known as exfoliation. Face scrubs go deep into your skin and help unclog your pores in order to reveal a more glowing, dirt free skin.
In this fastrack world where some people may barely even remember to wash their faces after a long hard day of work before falling into the comforts of their bed, exfoliation seems like a luxury that is most often neglected. However, the process of exfoliation with the help of a face scrub is a vital step in a skin care routine. Here are some of the reasons why we should give this more attention :
The job of a face scrub is to fish out all the dirt and dead skin cells that have settled on your skin. Once this is done, products such as face cleanser or moisturiser are able to penetrate the skin and show better results. With dead skin cells occupying the layers of your skin, moisturisers and cleansers may not be able to show the results they are capable of as they cannot get past the outer layers.
In spite of its benefits, a face scrub should not be overused. Excess exfoliation can lead to problems such as extreme dryness, skin irritation, sensitivity and redness of the skin. Hence, as suggested by many users, one must exfoliate between 1-3 times in a week, depending on your skin type.
Exfoliating your skin on a timely basis improves the skins texture and makes it soft. Once the dead skin cells are removed from the layers of your skin, newer and healthier skin cells emerge making it look fresher and feel softer.
Exfoliation helps in unclogging the clogged pores in your skin and in turn prevents the outbreak of pimples/acne. Clogged skin pores trap oil in the cells which leads to acne breakouts. However, as mentioned earlier excess exfoliation can have this effect too. Thus, it is important to have the right balance in your skin care routine.
Dead skin cells enhance aging signs such as wrinkles, lines and spots. Our skin possesses the ability to naturally discard off dead skin cells. However, with age this process tends to slow down. Exfoliations aids this process and hides some of these signs of aging.
